We got back from a delightful trip to Quito last night. It was really great to see Quito again. Dad, of course, recognized where we were and what used to be there, and I recognized very little except the beautiful mountains and some of the old city center parks, cathedrals, statues, etc. It was all very changed of course, after thirty years. We walked early one morning from the hotel up the hill where the mission home used to be. It took Dad (I wasn't even close) awhile to even recognize the building.
The best part was the seminar itself which was held in a beautiful J.W. Marriott Hotel (a step up from a Marriott). We had 11 mission presidents and their wives from Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador, as well as the area presidency, Elder and Sister Christofferson, and Elder Costa. We certainly felt the very least of those attending (and you know I'm not one for false modesty) but it wasn't quite as overwhelming for me as it was last year. Sunday morning we enjoyed a wonderful sacrament and testimony meeting and then heard from all the presiding officers and wives. It was wonderful. We left refreshed, motivated and strengthened.
We are still anxiously awaiting your plans for coming here because much of our scheduling for the whole mission depends on your schedules and adjusting to best accommodate our spending time together. Mel and Carolyn, if you haven't already done so, make your plans STAT and let us know.
We love you. The gospel is true...we are involved in a great work.
Love,
Mom
